Natomas, CA โ On Friday evening, November 29, 2024, a woman was tragically struck and killed by a driver allegedly under the influence near a South Natomas intersection, as reported by The Sacramento Bee. Sacramento Police responded to the scene just before 8 PM at the intersection of Northgate Boulevard and Turnstone Drive.
Upon arrival, officers encountered both the pedestrian and the 50-year-old male driver. Officers rendered emergency medical assistance to the victim until personnel from the Sacramento Fire Department arrived. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
After determining that the driver was under the influence, officers arrested him and took him to the Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was booked on DUI charges. The identity of the victim has not been released, pending notification of her family by the Sacramento County Coronerโs Office.
The investigation of the incident is now under the care of the Sacramento Police Departmentโs Major Collision Investigations Unit and crime scene investigators. They are undertaking a comprehensive inquiry, which includes canvassing the area and interviewing witnesses. The intersection, located near the Foods Co. grocery store within the South Natomas and Gardenland neighborhoods, reopened early Saturday morning.
According to California DUI Law, specifically Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC), it is illegal for any driver to operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a consequence, cause bodily injury to another person.
