A tragic car accident occurred Thursday morning in Mather, resulting in one fatality, as reported by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. Emergency medical services received the call around 8:48 a.m., responding to the scene at Excelsior Road and Kiefer Boulevard in Sacramento County.
The incident involved two vehicles, with one catching fire. Unfortunately, the driver of the burning vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Sacramento Metro Fire District.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a driver operating a Tesla made an attempt to pass several vehicles, leading to a head-on collision with a Ford Fusion that was traveling in the opposite lane. Following the crash, the Ford Fusion rolled over, while the Tesla ignited.
Officials have stated that the female driver of the Tesla lost her life at the scene, while the male driver of the Fusion was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
Crews arrived to find two vehicles extensively damaged, blocking both lanes of traffic. One vehicle was engulfed in flames, claiming the life of the driver inside, and the other vehicle had overturned, injuring its driver.
An alert from the California Highway Patrol stated, “Traffic Alert: Excelsior Road just south of Westerly Drive is currently blocked due to a two-vehicle fatal traffic collision. Please avoid the area and use alternate routes of travel.” This warning emphasizes the seriousness of the situation on the road.
