Newport Beach, California – On Sunday morning in Newport Beach, two individuals inside an SUV, which sustained catastrophic damage in a collision, “miraculously” emerged with only minor injuries, according to authorities.
Newport Beach firefighters received an emergency call and rushed to the scene located on the 1100 block of Jamboree Road around 1 a.m., as detailed in a statement from the authorities.
Upon their arrival, multiple units discovered a “significant single-vehicle traffic collision” on the southbound side of Jamboree Road. Firefighters reported that the SUV impacted two light poles, causing severe damage before colliding with a tree. As a result of the crash, the engine compartment detached from the main body of the vehicle.
The Newport Beach Fire Department stated, “Upon arrival, NE63 quickly extinguished a fire in the vehicle’s engine compartment.” They noted that the main body of the SUV was located approximately 20 feet away in the center of Jamboree Road, with additional debris, including a front tire, found inside the Palisades Tennis Club property.
Remarkably, the two occupants managed to self-extricate themselves before emergency responders arrived. Firefighters found them sitting on the curb. After an assessment at the scene, they were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is currently ongoing.
