[04-01-2025] – Santa Cruz Pedestrian Crash Seriously Injures Child at Soquel Drive and Fairway Drive

Santa Cruz, CAย โ€” A young child suffered major injuries after being struck by a silver Ford Escape in a vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident on Tuesday evening at the intersection of Soquel Drive and Fairway Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:40 PM, prompting an immediate response from Santa Cruz Fire and Rescue and local paramedics. Authorities classified the incident as a โ€œmajor injuryโ€ pedestrian crash (CHP Code 1180).

Emergency crews rushed to stabilize the juvenile victim, who remained at the scene before being transported for urgent medical care. The Ford Escape driver stayed on-site, and the roadway was temporarily closed while officials conducted their preliminary investigation.

โ€œThe childโ€™s parents were notified and met with authorities at the scene,โ€ the CHP confirmed.

The childโ€™s identity and condition have not been publicly released, and no arrests or citations have been issued at this time.

CHP officers are actively investigating potential contributing factors, including:

  • Vehicle speed

  • Driver attentiveness

  • Lighting or visibility conditions

The involved vehicle was noted to have remained at the crash site, and authorities have not confirmed if impairment or other violations were suspected.
