Los Angeles, CA (September 08, 2025) – A tow truck driver was taken into custody following a fatal crash on the southbound 405 Freeway in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon. The accident, which occurred shortly before 2 p.m. near Skirball Center Drive, resulted in the death of one person.
According to KTLA’s Gil Leyvas, the victim was reportedly standing outside their gray Toyota Prius on the shoulder of the freeway when they were struck by the tow truck. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash caused significant traffic delays on the 405 Freeway, with backups extending to the 101 interchange in the San Fernando Valley, affecting thousands of commuters.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including why the victim was outside of their vehicle at the time of the collision.
