Vacaville, CA - 67-Year-Old Woman Killed After Exiting Vehicle on Pleasant Valley Road

Vacaville, CA (August 3, 2026) – A 67-year-old woman died after she was struck by an SUV on Pleasant Valley Road near Sunny Hills Lane, just west of Vacaville, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened shortly after 8:30 p.m. on the night of August 3. According to CHP, the woman had been driving north on Pleasant Valley Road when she pulled onto the right shoulder, turned on her hazard lights, got out of her vehicle, and crossed to the west side of the road.

At the same time, a 42-year-old man was driving south on Pleasant Valley Road in a Mitsubishi Outlander with his wife and son as passengers. CHP said the woman was in the southbound lane for reasons still under investigation when she was struck by the Mitsubishi.

The driver stopped immediately, called 911, and remained at the scene. Cal Fire crews responding to an unrelated incident nearby were flagged down and began CPR until additional emergency personnel arrived. Vacaville firefighters continued lifesaving efforts, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP said the driver cooperated fully with investigators and showed no signs of impairment. The exact circumstances, including why the woman pulled over and got out of her vehicle, remain under investigation. Authorities have not released her name.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Pedestrian Accidents in Vacaville, CA

When someone is struck while on foot in the roadway, fault is rarely as simple as it first appears, and it is not something a grieving family should have to determine alone.

  • Who may share responsibility: the striking driver, depending on speed, lighting conditions, and how much time they had to react, and any third party whose conduct contributed to the woman being in the roadway
  • What investigators examine: recorded speed, headlight and visibility conditions, dash-cam or nearby surveillance footage, and the CHP’s collision reconstruction findings
  • Whether the vehicle’s black-box or event-data-recorder information supports or contradicts the driver’s account

A pedestrian struck outside a marked crosswalk is not automatically at fault. California follows a pure comparative fault standard, so a family can still recover compensation even if the woman is later found partly responsible; any share of fault only reduces, rather than eliminates, what can be recovered.

Under California law, wrongful death claims must generally be filed within two years of the date of death (CCP § 377.60), which for this case would be August 3, 2028.
