Hayward, CA (Sept. 20, 2026) – At least one person was severely injured in a four-vehicle collision on southbound Interstate 880, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened around 9:04 p.m. on September 20, 2026, on southbound Interstate 880, just west of the West Winton Avenue off-ramp. Four vehicles were involved, including a black Volkswagen Passat and a red Toyota Corolla.
At least one person sustained major injuries in the crash, according to the CHP. That person was hospitalized in unknown condition.
The exact cause of the crash remained unknown at the time of the report. Authorities were informed by a person reporting the accident that one of the cars was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit another car that was stalled in traffic lanes with the hazard lights on.
The collision forced the closure of Nos. 4 and 5 lanes. Both the eastbound and westbound Winton Avenue on-ramps to southbound I-880 were closed as well.
