Fatal Hit-and-Run Accidents in Santa Monica: Know Your Legal Rights

Hit-and-run accidents can leave families grieving sudden loss and facing overwhelming financial burdens. Under California law, families who lose loved ones in fatal collisions caused by negligent or reckless drivers may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. This can provide compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, medical costs, and emotional suffering.

Even when the at-fault driver flees, victims and families may still seek compensation through uninsured motorist coverage or civil legal claims once the suspect is identified. In fatal cases involving pedestrians, a skilled California wrongful death lawyer can work with investigators, secure video evidence, and identify all liable parties.

California’s statute of limitations for wrongful death claims is two years from the date of death. Acting quickly helps preserve crucial evidence such as traffic camera footage and eyewitness statements before they’re lost.
