Orange, CA (September 21, 2025) – A 79-year-old pedestrian was killed in a DUI-related collision Sunday night in Orange, authorities confirmed.
The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on La Veta Avenue near Devon Road. Bryan Reyes, 26, of Santa Ana, was driving eastbound when he struck Oscar Garcia Soto, a 79-year-old pedestrian from Santa Ana, who was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk.
According to Orange police, Garcia Soto was not in a crosswalk and was walking southbound across La Veta when he was hit by Reyes’ vehicle.
Reyes was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Police are investigating whether he was speeding at the time of the crash.
The crash occurred just east of the 5 Freeway overpass in a mostly residential area.
