Bakersfield, CA (October 05, 2025) – One motorcyclist was killed and another seriously injured on Sunday morning after a collision with an SUV on southbound Interstate 5 near Grapevine Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. as two motorcyclists were traveling in the fast lane. CHP investigators reported that an SUV attempted a U-turn through a turn-thru at Grapevine and turned directly in front of the riders, causing the collision.
Emergency responders halted all southbound traffic to clear the scene and provide medical aid. One rider was airlifted to Kern Medical with major injuries, while the other, identified as 41-year-old Angel Barraza Garcia of Paramount, was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital.
CHP confirmed that occupants of the SUV were uninjured. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
