Antioch, CA (April 22, 2025) – A fatal crash involving four vehicles was reported Tuesday night on eastbound Highway 4 near the Highway 160 interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 9:30 p.m. when a Lexus sedan, driven by 50-year-old Victor Vigil of Pittsburg, traveled the wrong way and collided head-on with a Mercedes. Two other vehicles, a Honda and a Dodge Durango, were also involved following the initial impact.

Vigil died at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital. Two additional people sustained injuries and were transported for medical treatment. The driver of the Honda was reportedly not injured.

Authorities stated that Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies had attempted to stop the Lexus for a traffic violation earlier but had terminated the pursuit before the collision occurred.

CHP is investigating the crash.

We extend our condolences to the family of Victor Vigil and hope for the recovery of those injured.
