San Diego, CA (September 13, 2025) – A bicyclist was killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run collision on Carlsbad Boulevard near the beach, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.
The crash occurred around 4:34 a.m. between Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road, when a vehicle struck the cyclist. The impact proved fatal, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity at a later date.
Officers, aided by community reports, license plate readers, and drone surveillance, located and arrested 27-year-old Alexander Gendron of Escondido approximately one mile from the crash site. Gendron faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a collision resulting in injury or death, DUI causing injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter. He is being held at the Vista Detention Facility.
Carlsbad Boulevard was closed between Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road for several hours while investigators processed the scene. Police indicated that alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the collision, which remains under investigation.
