Malibu, CA (August 29, 2025) – A high-speed chase involving a carjacking suspect ended in a violent crash on the Pacific Coast Highway Friday evening, leaving three young children and two adults hospitalized. The incident unfolded near the Kanan Dume Road intersection, prompting a massive law enforcement response.
According to authorities, the pursuit began in East Los Angeles shortly before 7 p.m. when the suspect allegedly stole a vehicle with three children inside. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers tracked the SUV as it made its way to Santa Monica, eventually entering the Pacific Coast Highway. For the safety of the children, officers initially avoided pit maneuvers, later deploying a spike strip, which the suspect struck before speeding erratically.
At approximately 7:35 p.m., the suspect ran a red light near Kanan Dume Road, colliding with another vehicle, which triggered a multi-car accident. Witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee on foot, navigating through backyards and climbing fences before Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies apprehended him shirtless and shoeless in a nearby neighborhood by 7:50 p.m.
Emergency responders rushed the three children and two adults to local hospitals. The children, all under 10 years old, were conscious and breathing when removed from the SUV. The other vehicle involved, driven by an older woman with a passenger, also sustained serious damage, and both occupants were transported for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the crash, including the circumstances of the carjacking and the sequence of the pursuit. CHP is handling the official collision investigation.
