Chico, CA - Two Injured in Semi-Truck Crash on SR-99

Chico, CA (June 28, 2025) – A semi-truck and pickup truck collided on southbound State Route 99 early Saturday morning, resulting in two injuries, one of them serious. The crash occurred around 1:07 a.m. just south of Grand Prairie Rd.

First responders arrived at the scene and provided medical care to the injured individuals. One person was extricated from the wreckage by firefighters and taken to the hospital with major injuries. The driver of the semi-truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The crash involved a GMC 1500 pickup truck and a semi-truck hauling a trailer with 6-8 pallets of water bottles. The collision caused significant front-end damage to the pickup, with debris from the vehicles and cargo scattered across the roadway.

Authorities temporarily closed portions of SR-99 as emergency crews worked to clear the area and begin their investigation into the cause of the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

We send our thoughts to those injured in this accident, particularly the individual hospitalized with serious injuries.

Commercial Truck Collisions in California

Collisions involving 18-wheelers and freight trucks on highways like I-5, I-80, and the San Joaquin Valley routes often leave victims with life-altering injuries. The size and weight of commercial vehicles mean that even a single crash can result in spinal damage, brain trauma, or permanent disability.

These accidents are rarely simple. California and federal laws tightly regulate trucking operations, limiting driver hours, requiring vehicle inspections, and enforcing cargo rules. When companies or drivers break these rules, the risk of a crash rises sharply. Identifying these violations is key to proving fault.

Truck accidents often involve multiple liable parties, including the driver, the trucking company, maintenance providers, and cargo contractors. That complexity makes fast, focused legal action essential. Evidence such as black box data, inspection logs, and driver records can be easily lost or destroyed if not properly preserved.

An experienced truck accident attorney can push back, preserve key evidence, and calculate the full value of your case. Under California law, you have two years to file a claim, but your case begins the moment the crash happens.
