Coalinga, CA – One Killed in Crash Involving Semi-Truck and Honda Civic on I-5 Near Highway 198

Coalinga, CA (July 07, 2025) – A man lost his life in a tragic crash involving a semi-truck and a Honda Civic on southbound I-5, just north of the Highway 198 junction near Coalinga on Monday afternoon. The collision occurred around 5:00 p.m., when the driver of the Honda, a 2008 Civic, veered off the roadway and into the center median for unknown reasons.

As the car spun counterclockwise in the median, it crossed into the path of a southbound Freightliner semi-truck. The truck driver, a 24-year-old from Manteca, had little time to react before colliding with the Honda, causing catastrophic damage.

The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured. Authorities closed parts of I-5 during the investigation and later cleared the vehicles, restoring traffic flow later that evening.

The identity of the deceased driver has not been released as authorities work to notify the family.
