Fresno County, CA (October 04, 2025) – David Solomon, a California Army National Guard member, was killed Sunday morning after his car veered off the road and rolled into a creek bed, coming to rest on its roof, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Tollhouse Road near Van Vleet in the Fresno County foothills. CHP officers and Cal Fire crews found the vehicle overturned with the driver trapped inside. Emergency responders used the Jaws of Life to extricate Solomon, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A small procession of first responders escorted Solomon’s body to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office. Friends and colleagues identified him, noting that he served with the California Army National Guard and was contracted with Cal Fire to respond to wildfires across the state.
In a statement, the California Military Department said, “We are heartbroken by this loss. Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones, and the Guardsmen and Cal Fire leadership of the Toll House crew the Soldier left behind.”
CHP is investigating the cause of the crash, which has not yet been determined.
