Oakland, CA – Fatal Crash on I-880 South at Hegenberger Road Early This Morning

Oakland, CA (August 23, 2025) – A fatal collision involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle occurred early Friday morning on southbound I-880 near Hegenberger Road. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the passenger vehicle was rear-ended by a semi-truck around 4:30 a.m., resulting in one person being pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency responders, including Oakland Fire Department and passing EMTs, confirmed that one occupant of the passenger vehicle was unresponsive. Both lanes of southbound I-880 were blocked temporarily while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the vehicles.
