Carlsbad, CA (August 09, 2025) – A 33-year-old man was arrested after an early-morning traffic collision in Carlsbad on Saturday resulted in the death of one person.
According to the Carlsbad Police Department, Philip Webb of Oceanside was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence, causing injury or death, and vehicular manslaughter. He will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
The crash happened shortly before 5:20 a.m. near the intersection of La Costa Avenue and Piraeus Street. A Subaru crossover driven by Webb collided with a Nissan pickup truck. The driver and sole occupant of the Nissan was transported to a hospital but later died. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The investigation into the exact cause remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
