Pope Valley, CA (September 07, 2025) – Six people tragically lost their lives, and two others sustained major injuries in a suspected DUI crash on Pope Valley Road on Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred just before 6:00 p.m., when CHP officers were dispatched to the area of 6198 Pope Valley Road, located in an unincorporated part of Napa County. Upon arrival, they discovered a Toyota minivan that had veered off the road and crashed into a tree.
The Toyota minivan, which was carrying eight people, was confirmed to have lost control and struck a tree. Tragically, six people were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and one passenger were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment of major injuries.
The driver, an adult man, was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of DUI, the CHP reported.
As of 7:45 p.m., Pope Valley Road remains closed while authorities continue their investigation.
The crash took place in the unincorporated community of Pope Valley, located approximately 12 miles north of St. Helena. The site is near Pope Valley Union Elementary School and Calla Lily Estate and Winery.
Authorities have not yet identified the six individuals who were killed in the crash.
