Fresno, CA (June 29, 2025) – Scott Beckwith, a 44-year-old Fresno man, was killed Sunday morning after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash in Downtown Fresno, according to the Fresno Police Department.
The incident began around 10:30 a.m. when officers responded to a report of a crashed silver Chevy S10 truck at Fresno and H streets. Upon arrival, officers found Beckwith dead at the scene.
Investigators learned that Beckwith had rear-ended a Subaru about a mile away at P and Divisidero Streets. After the initial collision, Beckwith sped away, reaching estimated speeds of over 100 mph. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.
The driver of the Subaru told officers that Beckwith fled the scene before he could exchange information.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Scott Beckwith during this difficult time.
Truck Collisions in California
Collisions involving 18-wheelers and freight trucks on highways like I-5, I-80, and the San Joaquin Valley routes often leave victims with life-altering injuries. The size and weight of commercial vehicles mean that even a single crash can result in spinal damage, brain trauma, or permanent disability.
These accidents are rarely simple. California and federal laws tightly regulate trucking operations, limiting driver hours, requiring vehicle inspections, and enforcing cargo rules. When companies or drivers break these rules, the risk of a crash rises sharply. Identifying these violations is key to proving fault.
Truck accidents often involve multiple liable parties, including the driver, the trucking company, maintenance providers, and cargo contractors. That complexity makes fast, focused legal action essential. Evidence such as black box data, inspection logs, and driver records can be easily lost or destroyed if not properly preserved.
An experienced California truck accident attorney can push back, preserve key evidence, and calculate the full value of your case. Under California law, you have two years to file a claim, but your case begins the moment the crash happens.
