Kern County, CA (October 31, 2025) – A 32-year-old man from Sacramento was killed early Friday morning following a solo-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 5, just north of Lerdo Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 5:38 a.m., when a 30-year-old Sacramento woman driving a 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser northbound at approximately 70 mph lost control of the vehicle. CHP investigators said the Toyota veered right into the number two lane, then abruptly swerved back into the number one lane before veering off the roadway and rolling over.
The right-front passenger, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment, while a one-year-old child in the vehicle escaped unharmed. CHP officers continue to investigate the cause of the crash and have not yet determined whether impairment or fatigue played a role.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this tragic accident.
Fatal Car Accidents in California: Know Your Legal Rights
Single-vehicle accidents can be just as devastating as multi-car collisions, especially when passengers are fatally injured. Under California law, surviving family members of passengers killed in car accidents may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim to recover compensation for funeral costs, lost income, and emotional suffering.
Even when the at-fault driver is a family member or friend, claims are typically handled through insurance coverage, not personal assets. An experienced California wrongful death attorney can review CHP reports, examine vehicle data, and identify all sources of compensation, including possible defective vehicle components or road hazards.
California’s statute of limitations allows families two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. Taking early action can help preserve critical evidence and ensure accountability.
