Los Banos, CA (May 23, 2025) – One farmworker was killed and seven others injured in a hit-and-run crash on northbound Interstate 5 near the Highway 152 interchange, the California Highway Patrol reports.
The crash happened just before 5:00 a.m. when a white 2001 GMC Safari van carrying agricultural workers was rear-ended by a fleeing big rig. The impact forced the van into a guardrail, down an embankment, and it overturned onto its roof.
Emergency crews pronounced one passenger dead at the scene. Three workers sustained major injuries and four suffered minor injuries; all were rushed to nearby hospitals. CHP investigators say at least four occupants were unrestrained and are actively searching for the white International truck.
We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and wish a full recovery to those injured.
