Madera, CA – Passenger Killed, Driver Hospitalized in DUI Crash on Road 35 Near Ave 14

Madera, CA (July 20, 2025) – A fatal crash involving suspected DUI claimed the life of a 20-year-old passenger and left the driver injured on Sunday night in Madera. The California Highway Patrol confirmed the incident occurred at approximately 9:19 p.m. on Road 35, just south of Avenue 14.

Emergency responders arrived to find a black Nissan overturned after crashing into a PG&E power pole. According to initial reports, the vehicle had been traveling at high speed when the driver lost control, causing the car to veer off the roadway, collide with the utility pole, and flip.

Despite efforts from fire crews and paramedics, the 20-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

The driver, identified as 19-year-old Manuel Ramirez Garcia, was transported to Community Regional Medical Center with injuries sustained in the crash. According to CHP officials, Garcia is suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) at the time of the collision. He will be booked into Madera County Jail on DUI-related charges once released from the hospital.
