Bakersfield, CA (August 30, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian collision occurred on SR-58 East near Mill Street early today morning, leaving one man dead, according to the Kern County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol.
Authorities reported the incident just after 1:40 a.m., when a male pedestrian was found lying on the right-hand side of the eastbound lanes. Emergency responders from Kern County Fire Department arrived promptly, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident caused an eastbound closure on SR-58, which was later partially reopened, though authorities warned drivers of continued delays. A nearby van and one other vehicle were possibly involved in the collision, but the exact sequence of events remains under investigation.
Kern County Coroner’s Office is handling identification of the deceased, while CHP continues to investigate the cause of the fatal crash. Early reports suggest that no other injuries were reported, and speed or impairment factors have not yet been confirmed.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes as investigators work to clear the scene and gather evidence.
