Merced County, CA (May 13, 2025) – A Southern California man was killed and another person seriously injured in a collision involving a big rig and a pickup truck late Tuesday night on Highway 99.
The crash occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes just south of Buhach Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado had come to a stop in the right lane for unknown reasons when a big rig traveling in the same direction struck it.
The driver of the Silverado, a Riverside resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger from Coarsegold suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a Modesto hospital. The big rig driver, from Visalia, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Merced Medical Center.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
