Oakland, CA (May 30), 2025 – An Oakland man was killed, and a woman was injured when a vehicle being chased by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) lost control and crashed into the pedestrians Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. at the intersection of 12th Avenue and East 21st Street in Oakland’s Clinton neighborhood. Police stated that the CHP had been pursuing the vehicle, but the chase was called off shortly before the crash.
The vehicle continued recklessly through the area before losing control and hitting a man and a woman walking on the sidewalk. Surveillance footage captured the car skidding through the intersection, striking a fire hydrant, a tree, and then the two pedestrians, who were unable to avoid the collision.
The driver fled the scene but was later apprehended by CHP officers.
The pedestrians, both in their 40s, were given life-saving aid, but the man died at the scene. The woman was transported to the hospital, listed in stable condition, and was later released.
The incident remains under investigation.
