Oakland, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Crash on I-80

Oakland, CA (May 26, 2025) – A pedestrian was killed when struck on westbound Interstate 80 near the Powell Street on-ramp, the California Highway Patrol reports.

The CHP says the collision occurred around 10:50 p.m. Monday when a man in a blue tracksuit entered traffic from the center divide and was struck by a BMW SUV. Emergency responders pronounced the person dead at the scene, and the Alameda County Coroner’s Office later recovered the body.

All westbound lanes of I-80 were closed until about 1:45 a.m. as CHP officers and tow crews removed the overturned vehicle and conducted a full investigation. Surveillance footage and witness statements are being reviewed to determine what led to the crash.
