Oceanside, CAย โ A pedestrian was fatally struck by a white Chevrolet work truck early Monday morning on Interstate 5 North, approximately one mile south of Las Pulgas Road, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident was reported at approximately 4:20 AM, when the truckโs driver contacted authorities, stating he believed he had hit a person while traveling northbound. After pulling over to the right-hand shoulder, the driver was initially unable to locate the individual.
Emergency personnel, including the Camp Pendleton Fire Department and local medical responders, quickly arrived at the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. The victimโs identity has not yet been released, pending next of kin notification.
To conduct a thorough investigation, all northbound lanes of I-5 were temporarily closed, causing early morning traffic delays. The Chevrolet pickup was described as missing its left front headlight and showing damage to its black grille.
By approximately 5:10 AM, all lanes were reopened, and the scene was contained to the center divide.
