Sacramento, CA (September 13, 2025) – A deadly collision occurred Saturday morning on northbound I-5 in Sacramento, claiming the life of a pickup truck driver and injuring the driver of a big rig, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Emergency responders were dispatched around 7:13 a.m. to the crash site just north of Sutterville Road in the Upper Land Park neighborhood. Investigators determined that a pickup truck became disabled after losing a tire and was struck from behind by a big rig hauling two trailers. Both vehicles caught fire following the impact.
The pickup truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The big rig operator sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. CHP stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the collision.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities are reviewing the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
