La Riviera, CA (October 09, 2025) – One man died and two others sustained major injuries after a high-speed crash involving a Hyundai Tucson on La Riviera Drive near Watt Avenue on Thursday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred around 2:08 p.m. when the Hyundai, traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, left the roadway and struck a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn into a nearby parking lot, where it then collided with a metal fence.
Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department reported that first responders had to extricate several people from the vehicle due to the severity of the crash. The driver died at the scene, while a woman and a man, both passengers, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Their identities have not been released.
The crash caused damage to the parking lot area at the site. CHP officials have not yet determined whether impairment or a medical emergency played a role, and the investigation remains ongoing.
