Los Angeles, CA (September 10, 2025) – A fatal crash early Wednesday morning on the northbound 5 Freeway in Griffith Park left one person dead and prompted a prolonged closure of all lanes.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the collision shortly after 3 a.m. near the 134 Freeway. According to authorities, one vehicle caught fire during the crash, trapping the occupant, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Details regarding the events leading up to the two-car collision have not been released. Northbound lanes remained closed for several hours as emergency crews extinguished the fire and cleared the wreckage, reopening fully by 7:30 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the deadly accident.
