Westminster, CA – A pedestrian was tragically struck and killed early Monday morning on the southbound side of Interstate 5 near Lincoln Avenue in Westminster. The fatal crash occurred around 2:02 AM on March 31, 2025, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Initial reports indicate that the pedestrian was in the middle lanes of I-5 when they were struck by a white truck. Following the initial impact, the truck came to a stop on the freeway, obstructing traffic lanes. A second vehicle, identified as a black Honda Civic, also collided with the pedestrian shortly after the first crash.
Emergency responders, including Westminster Fire and Rescue and CHP officers, arrived promptly at the scene. Sadly, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene. The individualโs identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
After the collision, the driver of the Honda Civic reportedly left the freeway and was later located at an apartment complex on Vermont Avenue. CHP officers are following up with that driver as part of their ongoing investigation.
Authorities are working to determine why the pedestrian was on the freeway at the time of the crash. The incident prompted a SigAlert, resulting in the closure of all southbound lanes of I-5 near Euclid Street. Caltrans assisted with traffic control while investigators and emergency crews managed the scene.
One lane reopened around 3:11 AM, with all lanes fully restored by 7:05 AM.
