Oakland, CA (August 13, 2025) – A pedestrian was injured yesterday in a hit-and-run crash on eastbound Interstate 80 near the Powell Street off-ramp in Berkeley, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The collision was reported at approximately 11:35 p.m.
CHP reports that a silver Jaguar, license plate beginning with J8, struck the pedestrian while they were in lane 1 of the freeway. Emergency crews moved the injured pedestrian to a safe location near the HOV lane before transporting them for medical care.
Several lanes were closed as authorities implemented traffic control measures, causing delays for eastbound I-80 drivers.
The driver of the silver Jaguar fled before officers arrived. CHP units searched the surrounding area but did not report any immediate officer safety concerns. The investigation remains active as authorities work to identify and locate the suspect.
CHP is asking anyone who saw the crash or has information about the suspect vehicle to contact their Oakland area office. Dashcam footage or eyewitness accounts may help in the investigation.
Pedestrian Accident in Oakland, CA
Pedestrian accidents in Oakland occur on busy city streets, residential neighborhoods, and major roadways such as I-880, I-580, and I-80. Whether they happen in marked crosswalks, along sidewalks, or in high-speed freeway zones, these incidents can cause severe and often life-changing injuries. Victims frequently suffer broken bones, traumatic brain injuries, spinal damage, and other serious harm that require extensive medical treatment and long recovery periods.
Many pedestrian accidents are caused by driver negligence, including speeding, running red lights, failing to yield, distracted driving, and driving under the influence. Poor visibility, inadequate crosswalk markings, and dangerous road design can also play a role.
