San Jose, CA – 21-Year-Old Man Killed, Another Injured in Fiery Two-Car Crash on Hwy 87 Near Taylor St

San Jose, CA (July 13, 2025) – A man was killed, and another person was injured in a fiery crash involving a 2020 Mercedes and a 2013 Honda Civic late Sunday night on Highway 87 in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

At approximately 11:30 p.m., the Mercedes rear-ended the Honda, causing the Honda to spin out and strike the center concrete divider. The Mercedes veered off the right side of the freeway, collided with a concrete pillar, and caught fire. The driver of the Mercedes, a 21-year-old man from Cupertino, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the Mercedes survived the crash with minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. The occupants of the Honda reported no significant injuries.

The identity of the deceased driver has not been released. The CHP is investigating the cause of the collision and the events leading up to the crash.
