Riverside County, CA (August 31, 2025) – A woman and two horses were killed in a tragic crash on Highway 371 in Riverside County Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near Contreras Road in Anza. A group of horseback riders was on the shoulder when two of them unexpectedly wandered into the roadway and were struck by a car.
The woman, described as being in her late 30s, was killed in the crash, while the second rider sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both horses were also killed in the collision.
The driver of the vehicle was uninjured and remained at the scene to cooperate with authorities.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by CHP, and more details will be released as the investigation progresses.
