Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Los Angeles: Know Your Legal Rights
Pedestrian fatalities in Los Angeles are tragically common, often caused by speeding, distracted driving, or hit-and-run collisions. Families who lose loved ones in these preventable crashes have legal rights under California’s wrongful death law to pursue justice and financial recovery.
Surviving family members may be entitled to compensation for funeral and burial expenses, lost income and benefits, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering. Even when the driver flees or remains unidentified, recovery may still be possible through uninsured motorist coverage or claims against other negligent parties involved.
California law provides a two-year statute of limitations for filing a wrongful death lawsuit, starting from the date of the victim’s death. Acting promptly helps ensure critical evidence, such as surveillance video, witness statements, and accident reconstruction data, is preserved to support your claim.
