Hercules, California (August 8, 2026) – A motorcyclist in his mid-20s from Yuba City was killed Saturday night after a chain-reaction crash involving eleven vehicles on westbound Interstate 80, the California Highway Patrol said.
CHP Officer Dan Gilmore said the wreck happened around 11:30 p.m. just west of Sycamore Avenue, when the motorcycle collided with a blue Honda CR-V and the rider was ejected from the bike.
The man was then struck by another vehicle. Gilmore said nine additional vehicles crashed at the scene in the chain reaction that followed, before westbound lanes were shut down.
Two people suffered minor injuries in those secondary crashes. The motorcyclist, who was from Yuba City in Sutter County, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Westbound lanes were closed for about an hour and a half before the interstate partially reopened. All lanes were back open after roughly four and a half hours of investigation on August 8. Gilmore said the crash remained under investigation as of Sunday afternoon.
