South Lake Tahoe, CA (Oct. 1, 2026) – A 64-year-old Dayton, Nevada, woman died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon. Two other drivers suffered injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP received reports of the collision at approximately 1:14 p.m. It happened on U.S. Highway 50 near Meadow Vale Drive.
Investigators said a gray Subaru BRZ traveled westbound before entering the right shoulder. The driver overcorrected, sending the Subaru into the eastbound lanes. It struck the right side of a Toyota RAV4. The Subaru continued southwest and collided with a black Ram pickup truck.
The Subaru driver died at the scene, CHP said. The Toyota’s driver, a 63-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman, suffered moderate injuries. The Ram’s driver, a 47-year-old Placerville woman, sustained minor injuries.
CHP said alcohol and drugs did not appear to have contributed. The investigation remained ongoing at the time of the report.
We extend our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones. We also wish the injured drivers a steady recovery.
Legal Options After a Multi-Vehicle Crash Near South Lake Tahoe
People injured through another party’s negligence may pursue a personal injury claim. A claim must establish responsibility and connect that negligence to the injuries. Reported crash details alone do not settle every question of fault.
Compensation may cover medical expenses, lost earnings, and vehicle repair costs. Injured people may also seek damages for physical pain and emotional suffering. The losses supported by the evidence help determine the claim’s value.
A driver’s death does not automatically prevent injured people from pursuing compensation. Depending on the circumstances, claims may involve liability insurance or the driver’s estate. California law provides procedures for pursuing these claims after a potentially responsible driver dies. An attorney can determine which requirements apply.
To support your claim, preserve photographs, witness information, medical records, and insurance correspondence. Keep records of missed work and other accident-related expenses. These materials help document the collision, your injuries, and the resulting financial losses.
Before accepting a settlement, seek legal guidance about your losses and treatment needs.
