Anderson, CA - Paul Pascual Jr., 77, of Cottonwood Suffers Major Injuries in Head-On Crash on Panorama Point Road

Anderson, CA (June 21, 2026) – Paul Pascual Jr., 77, of Cottonwood, was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with major injuries after a head-on crash on Panorama Point Road, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) confirmed. The collision happened at about 7 p.m. south of Kimberly Road.

CHP said a 25-year-old Anderson man was driving north in a black GMC Yukon when he crossed the double yellow lines and entered the southbound lane. The reason for the lane departure remains under investigation. Pascual was driving south in a silver Chevrolet Colorado when the front of the GMC struck his vehicle.

Both vehicles rolled north after the impact, CHP said. The GMC came to rest on railroad tracks. Pascual’s Chevrolet stopped on the right shoulder of Kimberly Road, west of the tracks.

The GMC caught fire after the crash. CHP said emergency personnel extricated the driver and attempted lifesaving measures, but the driver died from his injuries. Pascual suffered major injuries, including lacerations to his right arm, and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.

CHP investigators determined that alcohol or drugs were not factors in the crash. The collision remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

When another driver crosses the center line and strikes your vehicle head-on, the road to recovery is long. The legal and financial questions that follow should not make it longer.

Head-On Collision Claims in California, CA

A driver who crosses a double yellow line and enters oncoming traffic is almost always liable for the collision that follows. California applies a pure comparative fault standard, meaning an injured person can pursue compensation regardless of any share of fault. In a case where one driver left their lane and entered opposing traffic, the liability picture tends to be relatively clear. These questions come up often after crashes like this one:

Can you still file a claim when the at-fault driver died in the crash?

Yes. In California, a personal injury claim survives the death of the at-fault driver. The claim is filed against that person’s estate and, typically, their insurance carrier. The death of the responsible driver does not remove your right to recover compensation for what you have been through.

What can a personal injury claim cover after a head-on collision?

A claim may include emergency care, surgery, ongoing rehabilitation, prescription costs, lost wages during recovery, and pain and suffering. If the injuries result in long-term limitations, those future costs can also factor into the claim.

What does the open investigation mean for a civil claim?

The CHP investigation does not need to close before a civil claim can begin. An attorney can build a case using the crash report, physical evidence, and witness statements, independent of the administrative process.

What should an injured person do right now?

  • Get a full medical evaluation, even if some injuries felt manageable at the scene
  • Do not give recorded statements to any insurance company before speaking with an attorney
  • Document everything: photographs of your injuries, vehicle damage, and the scene while it is still accessible
  • Do not accept any settlement offer before understanding the full extent of your injuries

Personal injury claims in California must generally be filed within two years of the crash date (CCP § 335.1). For this crash on June 21, 2026, that deadline is June 21, 2028. Speaking with an attorney early gives your case the best chance of being built on complete evidence, before the investigation closes and records become harder to obtain.
