Berkeley, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Hyundai Crash on Claremont Ave

Berkeley, CA (July 08, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian crash led to the closure of Claremont Avenue Tuesday night as police conducted an extended investigation, according to the Berkeley Police Department.

At around 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the scene between Woolsey Street and Prince Street, where a pedestrian was struck. The area was closed to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic for several hours.

Authorities said the driver involved remained at the scene. A Hyundai connected to the crash was towed during the investigation, and crime scene cleaners were later brought in.

Medics with the Berkeley Fire Department transported the injured pedestrian to Highland Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Officials said the deceased was a male in his 50s. His identity will be released once the family is notified by the County Coroner’s Office.
