Pedestrian Accidents in California
Pedestrian accidents are a growing concern across California. According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), more than 1,100 pedestrians are killed and over 14,000 are injured each year on California roads, one of the highest rates in the nation.
Victims of pedestrian accidents often suffer head trauma, fractures, or permanent disability, and when a hit-and-run occurs, the path to recovery can feel uncertain. Under California law, injured pedestrians have the right to seek compensation for:
- Medical expenses and rehabilitation costs
- Lost wages and future earnings
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
Even if the driver has not been identified, compensation may still be available through the victim’s uninsured motorist (UM) coverage. Victims generally have two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim, though starting early helps preserve key evidence like surveillance footage and witness statements.
