Millbrae, CA - Driver Dies After Highway 101 Rollover Crash Near Millbrae Avenue

Millbrae, CA (July 2, 2026) – A driver died Thursday evening after a rollover crash on southbound Highway 101 near Millbrae Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 7:00 p.m. CHP officers said they received a report that a vehicle had overturned multiple times and that an occupant may have been ejected.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying in the roadway with major injuries. Investigators determined that he had been driving a white Toyota Camry. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

CHP said a second vehicle was involved in the crash. No one in the second vehicle was reported injured.

According to investigators, the driver of the Camry was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Three lanes of southbound Highway 101 were closed for an extended period while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene.

What Families Should Know After a Fatal Highway Crash

Fatal freeway crashes can involve more than one legal question. Even when early reports mention a rollover, ejection, or seatbelt use, families should wait for the full investigation before drawing conclusions about what happened.

Important evidence may include vehicle damage, roadway marks, witness statements, crash scene photos, traffic camera footage, vehicle data, and the conduct of any other driver involved. In some cases, investigators may also review whether speeding, unsafe lane changes, road conditions, mechanical failure, or another vehicle contributed to the crash.

When a second vehicle is involved, the full sequence of events matters. A fatal crash investigation should determine how the vehicles interacted, whether either driver had time to avoid the collision, and whether any outside factor contributed to the rollover.

Family members may also need guidance on insurance issues, final medical expenses, funeral costs, and possible wrongful death claims.
