Sacramento, CA - 8 Injured in School Bus and Pickup Truck Crash on Belden Street

Sacramento, CA (October 29, 2025) – 8 people were injured on Wednesday afternoon after a school bus carrying special needs students collided with a Toyota Tacoma in the Del Paso Heights neighborhood, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Sacramento Fire Department.

The crash occurred around 3:00 p.m. near the 3900 block of Belden Street, just off Harris Avenue. Investigators said the Toyota Tacoma, carrying seven occupants, failed to stop while traveling eastbound on Harris Avenue and was struck by the school bus. The bus was transporting five individuals, including students with special needs.

Emergency crews responded quickly, transporting eight people to local hospitals with minor injuries. One individual sustained a laceration to the ear, while others were treated for mild trauma. CHP officials said citations are expected for the Tacoma driver and passengers due to seat belt violations.

The Twin Rivers Unified School District confirmed the bus was one of theirs, adding that one student and the driver were transported to the hospital as a precaution. The CHP is leading the ongoing investigation into the collision.

Our thoughts are with the students, families, and everyone affected by this frightening accident. We wish those injured a full and speedy recovery.

School Bus Accidents in California: Know Your Legal Rights

School bus accidents can be especially traumatic, particularly when they involve children with special needs. In California, those injured in bus accidents, including students, passengers, or other motorists, may be entitled to compensation for medical expenses, emotional distress, and rehabilitation costs if negligence contributed to the crash.

Common causes of these incidents include:

  • Drivers failing to stop at intersections
  • Speeding or distracted driving
  • Vehicle maintenance issues or equipment failure

Under California law, victims have two years from the date of the accident to file a personal injury claim. However, if the case involves a public school district or government vehicle, victims must file a government claim within six months – a crucial deadline many families are unaware of.

An experienced California school bus accident lawyer can help investigate the cause of the crash, determine liability, and handle claims against both private parties and government entities.
