Sacramento, California (Sept 14, 2026) – A man riding a bicycle died after colliding with a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash early Monday morning, the Sacramento Police Department said.
Officers responded to the crash near Luther Drive and Florin Road just after 3 a.m. on September 14. The vehicle involved left the scene before officers arrived, according to police.
The victim’s identity is being withheld until next of kin are notified. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sacramento Police Department’s dispatch center at 916-808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP (4357).

Losing someone to a driver who didn’t even stay can leave a family with grief and unanswered questions in the same breath.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Bicycle Accidents in Sacramento, California
When the driver who caused a fatal crash disappears before police arrive, the family is often left investigating two things at once: what happened, and who will be held responsible for it.
- Liability may ultimately rest with the driver, once identified, or with the vehicle’s registered owner
- Investigators typically look at nearby surveillance and traffic camera footage, paint transfer or debris left at the scene, and witness accounts
- Even if the driver is never identified, a claim may still be available under the victim’s own uninsured motorist coverage
Under California law, families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim (CCP § 335.1). For this crash, that deadline would fall on September 14, 2028.

Being struck by a driver who speeds away leaves victims and families with more than injuries. It leaves unanswered questions about who was responsible and how to pay for what comes next. You should not have to face that alone.

We work with law enforcement, gather traffic and surveillance camera footage, and pursue every available path to compensation, including claims filed under your own uninsured motorist coverage when the driver is never identified.
Evidence in a hit and run case can disappear quickly. Surveillance footage gets overwritten, physical evidence fades, and witnesses become harder to reach the longer you wait. Acting fast can make a real difference in what you are able to recover.
