Sacramento County, CA (June 2, 2026) – A bicyclist was killed after being hit by a vehicle in Hagginwood Tuesday night. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said the man was riding near the 3200 block of Marysville Boulevard around 10:45 p.m. when he was hit by the vehicle. Despite life-saving measures, he died at the scene, authorities said.
The driver stayed on the scene, and DUI does not appear to be a factor, the sheriff’s office said.
An investigation is ongoing.
A bicyclist killed on a neighborhood road at night leaves questions that deserve answers, and a family that deserves to know what their legal options are. If you lost someone in this crash, or were involved as a witness or nearby party, here is what matters right now.
Fatal Bicycle Accidents in Sacramento, California
Crashes involving bicyclists and motor vehicles on California roads raise immediate questions about driver responsibility, road conditions, and what compensation is available to the victim’s family. Here is what anyone connected to this crash needs to know:
- Get legal guidance before speaking to any investigator. Even in crashes where DUI is ruled out, other forms of negligence, such as speeding, distracted driving, and failure to yield, can form the basis of a civil claim. A civil claim runs completely separately from any criminal investigation.
- The statute of limitations in California is two years. Families have two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury or wrongful death claim. Acting early protects the evidence; surveillance footage, skid marks, and witness memories fade fast.
- Driver fault is not determined by the criminal investigation. A driver who stays at the scene and is not charged with DUI can still be civilly liable. The civil standard, negligence, is a lower bar than criminal guilt. What matters is whether the driver exercised reasonable care.
- Wrongful death claims cover more than medical bills. California law allows surviving family members to recover the economic value of future support the deceased would have provided, funeral costs, and non-economic losses, including loss of companionship, guidance, and love.
- Witness information is critical. If you saw this crash and have not yet spoken with an attorney, preserve anything you have: photos, video, or contact information for others at the scene.
California’s pure comparative fault rule means that even if fault is contested or partially shared, a claim can still move forward. Your recovery is reduced by any assigned percentage of fault; it is not eliminated.
