Watercraft Accidents in California

Whether you prefer powerboating, sailing, propelling a canoe, kayaking, or skimming the waves on a personal watercraft, boating is a popular activity in California. According to recreational boating statistics from the US Coast Guard (USCG), the state has over 703,250 registered vessels, which accounts for 5.9 percent of the total number of boats registered nationwide.

The high volume of watercraft that navigate California’s waterways also results in a higher risk of marine accidents. Approximately 4,450 accidents occur annually in the United States, with 475 of them taking place in the state. Each year, approximately 40 individuals are killed, and thousands more are injured in boat accidents in California.

The risk of boat collisions can be mitigated by being cognizant of the numerous factors that contribute to and cause them. Nevertheless, it is impossible to prevent all of these occurrences. Given the prevalence of these incidents in the Golden State, you must retain competent legal representation to safeguard your best interests.
