Sacramento, CA (May 8, 2024) – The California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday night that a motorist died following a north Sacramento crash that also led to a DUI arrest. The collision apparently involved three vehicles on Tuesday night just north of Sacramento and occurred near Elverta Road and Dominion Way, close to Antelope, just before 9:30 p.m.
One person was killed, and another person was being held in custody due to suspected drunk driving, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to CHP North Sacramento, one driver rear-ended a stopped vehicle at the intersection for unknown reasons, forcing the second motorist into the path of a third driver. One of the drivers, identified only as an adult male in his 60s or 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene. The third driver escaped with only minor injuries.
The motorist who caused the initial crash reportedly fled the scene but was apprehended later. He is accused of driving while intoxicated, though no further details were released in connection with his arrest. An investigation remains underway at this time, and officers asked witnesses to contact them right away.
Our deepest condolences are with the deceased victim’s loved ones. Our thoughts are with the injured victims in hopes of their full recovery.
Fatal Auto Accidents in California
All too many fatalities are attributed to drunk driving in the United States. In fact, at least 30 people are killed in these accidents daily, equating to more than 11,000 avoidable fatalities annually due to drunk driving crashes. By operating a motor vehicle while impaired or with delayed reaction times, an individual puts the lives of all those in the vicinity at risk.
Drunk drivers are frequently apprehended and subject to criminal charges. As a deterrent, criminal proceedings are established to punish the intoxicated motorist for their irresponsible conduct and safeguard the public from further injury. A driver who is intoxicated and fails to cause an accident or injury is still subject to criminal proceedings for DUI.
That said, victims and their families suffer from these incidents far too frequently despite these deterrents. Those who have experienced a drunk driving collision are acutely aware of the devastation that can result from such crashes. Even worse, fatalities and catastrophic injuries are common in these incidents. Following a drunk driving collision, you need the assistance of a seasoned attorney.
