Contra Costa County, CA – A teenager has been arrested early Saturday morning in Contra Costa County on charges of vehicular manslaughter, following a tragic incident in which he allegedly crashed his car into a security booth, resulting in the death of one of the guards inside. The 17-year-old was reportedly driving a Hyundai Santa Cruz eastbound on Balfour Road when he failed to stop at the intersection with Bixler Road, colliding with the guard booth located within the Discovery Bay gated community, approximately two miles east of Brentwood.
The crash took place just before midnight according to CHP Officer Dan Gilmore. At the time of the impact, two security guards were present in the booth. Tragically, one guard was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The driver was also taken to a hospital for precautionary measures, but was later arrested and booked into Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. Gilmore stated that there is no indication that intoxication played a role in the incident. However, the investigation is ongoing, and as of Saturday afternoon, a definitive cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
