San Francisco, CA – A multi-vehicle collision took place on U.S. Highway 101, close to the Cesar Chavez Street off-ramp, causing major traffic disruptions in San Francisco. This incident occurred on November 26, 2024, shortly before 1:30 p.m., leading to extensive delays and an active response from emergency teams.
The accident blocked the southbound lanes of Highway 101, resulting in several vehicles being involved, including one that overturned. Fortunately, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers arrived quickly at the scene to assess the situation. Minor to moderate injuries were reported. Initially, the pile-up forced the closure of lanes two through four, causing traffic to back up all the way to Treasure Island on the Bay Bridge, a notorious bottleneck for commuters.
Emergency crews, along with tow trucks, worked diligently to clear the wreckage and reopen the roads. By around 2:15 p.m., the efforts of the responders paid off as lane two was reopened, providing some relief to frustrated drivers, although lanes three and four remained closed as the cleanup continued. Authorities advised motorists to consider alternative routes, such as southbound Interstate 280, to avoid the congestion.
