Fatal Pedestrian Crashes in California
Pedestrians walking along roadways, municipal thoroughfares, or in close proximity to vehicles are frequently observed throughout the state of California. This is particularly true considering the state’s temperate climate, which remains constant throughout the year. Nevertheless, collisions between pedestrians and vehicles traversing our thoroughfares are common, and these collisions often result in serious injuries or even deaths.
Pedestrians are especially vulnerable to severe or potentially fatal injuries because they lack the safety features or protection of typical passenger vehicles. Unfortunately, in recent years, California has gained the position of the ninth most dangerous state nationwide for pedestrian fatalities and injuries. At least 1,000 pedestrian fatalities were documented in the prior five years. Additionally, the tenth least pedestrian-friendly region in the United States is the Sacramento metropolitan area.
